'Riot' at Rage Again The Machine in MN
Don't believe everything you read.

 The story:

Rage Against the Machine player a guerrilla gig in Minneapolis, showing up where they weren't supposed to, playing until thousands rioted uncontrolled, tear gas was used, riot police, etc.

The reality, from a crew guy on the ground:

They arrived to play 'unannounced' [the worst kept secret in Minn/St Paul this week] at a gig where a permit had been issued for live musical performances by unspecified bands. They were denied the right to play despite the permit. Power was shut off at a remote location (not by the police onsite, as widely reported) whereupon they sat on the steps and asked the crowd to quiet as they sang one song 'Killing in the name of' through a handheld megaphone, and left. The 'protesters', a stoned bunch of hippie kids, got unruly when they realized that Rage wouldn't be playing, and took off in packs wandering the area, aparently joining with a larger march on the nearby streets at the time.  Band members did NOT lead the march.

As usual, much ado about nothing.
